The Dems know they are losing the Mueller investigation and need a way out. Manipulating Trump into firing Rosenstein is the equivalent of tipping over the game board when all is lost.
But it wont work. If he was going to fire these idiots, he would've by now. He wants to see Mueller embarrassed when he has nothing to show for his investigation.
