Dingwall resigns "to clear his name"
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
...and I'm sure the general gum chewing public will too. -
Ontario Hydro was in debt to the tune of $38 Billion dollars, Ontario taxpayers were subsidized, subsidized, and subsidized for decades. All the provincial governments of Ontario over the last 30 years knew it was a money pit, Liberal,NDP and the Conservative governments but all kept subsidizing Ontario Hydro.Who was going to pay $38 Billion dollars of Hydro debt? The damn generators were just retrofitted to last for a few more years to the tune of $Billions, then what? Even if The province owned it, who's going to pay? My friend either way the answer is you and the good old days of cheap are gone forever.

14 year olds and sex with adults
Canuck E Stan replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
theloniusfleabag Just a correction to your Jerry Lee statement, Jerry Lee was 22 not 40,when he married his third wife(cousin),His first marriage was in 1952 at the age of 17.The second was when he was 19. He divorced his second wife a year after he married his cousin. He married again two more times. Must have made great National Enquirer stuff back in the 50's. -
Dingwall resigns "to clear his name"
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The slap in the face to the taxpayers by Dingwall wasn't so much the meal bill for $5,953,it was the charging of $1.29 on the expense account for a pack of gum. Come on,give us a break. -
Liberal View of Canada: PM, GG speak
Canuck E Stan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Looks like our former GG left on a high note for her aides. Clarkson's aides get green light to jump job queue So even though they were hired outside the government and were exempt from employment rules governing the rest of the public service, they now get to jump the job queue for government jobs. Now that's job security. Nice work if you can get it. -
Doesn't everyone feel safer now?
Canuck E Stan replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So much for feeling safer. Report: Military has no emergency plan With this government, everything takes longer than it takes. -
Reading about Dingwall resigning to "clear his name" Interestingly the CBC report makes no mention of the Lobbying aspect of this story. Dingwall resigns While Canada.com does. So here we go again, another Liberal making the news.Think he'll clear his name,or will he be toast?

Liberal View of Canada: PM, GG speak
Canuck E Stan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You make it sound like she was an elected MP. She would probably made an good one for the Liberals in Quebec, but then again the separatist issue would have kept her from being nominated by the Liberals. -
Gas $1.14 A Litre In Quebec
Canuck E Stan replied to THELIBERAL's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A good article in the Calgary Sun today about gas prices and Goodale's claim that reducing the taxes won't make a difference. Fed's Claim Runs Dry See comparison charts at: G A S O L I N E P R I C E M O N I T O R When you look at the comparison of prices across Canada with the U.S. you see little difference in the ACTUAL price of gas(excluding taxes),the major and significant differences is in the taxes charged. This accounts for the government's findings on collusion of gas companies never there. The next committee that Goodale is starting will again find that there is no conspiracy by the gas companies. The culprit is the Federal government(including provincial) itself. Goodale is wrong, reducing the gas tax will make a difference. -
Goodale: Boosting living standards
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Some conservative blogging from Monte Solberg-Finance critic Come on Ralph, pick on someone your own size I haven't seen anything that Ralph Goodale is doing that will improve my living standards. He doesn't seem to do anything for tax paying middle income and lower income Canadians. He won't touch corporate taxes or the bank merger either.Must be afraid to make waves before an election. -
Since Eureka hasn't answered "the everybody knows what it is" but us here on the forum about AECL's $2.3 Billion dollar clean-up question. Here's what I did find out about AECL. Energy Probe Just today in the news this story: Canada Resumes Nuclear ties with India So what's going on with AECL? $2.3 Billion in clean-up costs. The reactors are falling apart before their time in Ontario and are needing billions to refurbish. Plus they are planning to sell this faulty stuff to India, who in the past used it for nuclear weapons. Where's this all going?
-
I believe most people are aware of the AECL and what is does. The question is why $2.3 million for clean-up to an agency that produces generating facilities and sells them? Why the surprose surprises me. The necessary cleanup problem has been known for years and there have been ongoing studies and negotiations for that time. Jusr 30 mikes, or 48 kilometres, from where I live, there is a contamination problem that affects much of a town of about 12,000 people. Canacer has been rife there for many years and it is time for action. I don't know anyone other than those who sleep their lives away who is not aware of this situation. Now, apparently, has come the time to follow through.

Is Calgary or Edmonton Better Place to Live?
Canuck E Stan replied to Chamuel's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Chamuel, I apologise for that comment,it's a inside Canadian joke. There is a political movement in Alberta that wants Alberta to separate from Canada and become it's own country, the same as the province of Quebec has a a group wanting to separate from Canada. Don't worry about it we are still Canadians here and will be for a long time.Canada is a great country to live in and I hope you come here and make it your new home. -
Kimmy, I totally agree with you, and this is part of what's wrong with the media in Canada. Remember in grade school when we were taught about reporting and the teacher told you, you had to ask the questions,Who what, where, why and how when doing reporting? Where are the reporters asking these questions with this and many other stories the public wants answers to? It seems that to many of the stories are covered by columnists but should be in actual fact be news stories. Is it because of the editors making decisions on the story and not running it? The papers seem to bury their heads in the sand or wait til some other paper starts the story. The reporters should be on the ball and ask the relevant questions at the press conferences that the politicians have in these announcements. You and I question these things, and I have in the past send letters and e-mails to newspapers about stories that fade into oblivion without getting any answers. How do we get the answers to our questions?I guess that should be another thread.

Federal Political Humour
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Q: Who was the first liberal? A: Christopher Columbus. He left not knowing where he was going, once he got there not knowing where he was, left there not knowing where he’d been, and did it all on borrowed money. -
Liberals contemplating fall election?
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Acording to this poll, it is the question presented to Canadians, that indicates how they feel when an election should be called.Interesting. Angus Reid Polling Data In your opinion should Paul Martin call an election 30 days after the Gomery report is made public, as he had indicated or would you prefer he calls an election at a later date? I would prefer an election 30 days after the Gomery Report 53% I would prefer an election at a later date 33% Don’t know / Refusal 13% If opposition parties had the opportunity to defeat the minority Liberal government this fall, would you be in favour or not of this move? In favour 45% Not in favour 41% Don’t know / Refusal 13% Source: Leger Marketing Methodology: Telephone interviews to 1,500 adult Canadians, conducted from Sept. 6 to Sept. 11, 2005. Margin of error is 2.6 per cent. -
Liberals contemplating fall election?
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree with you this lead is not very tangible, and I personally would rather see it later than sooner. I somehow think that the ploy by the Liberals would be (as they made Healthcare an issue the last couple of go rounds) "see those Conservatives, they just couldn't wait ,now we were forced send you to the polls again. We didn't want to go but they made us do it.Lets show them by giving me a majority." May sound simplistic but it sure got Canadians upset last April when no one wanted an election, there's no reason it couldn't work for the Liberals again. -
Liberals contemplating fall election?
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You may have missed the footnote to his speech where he can put the blame on the opposition. They made me do it (because -of -some -strategic -forcing- them- to- vote- against -the-government- bill) -
So much for waiting 30 days after Gomery report.Liberals are getting ready for a fall election. Liberals contemplating fall election

Is Calgary or Edmonton Better Place to Live?
Canuck E Stan replied to Chamuel's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Go for Edmonton, they have the West Edmonton mall(one of the biggest in the world) this is where Edmontonians spend all of their time pretending they live somewhere else. Edmonton also has the advantage of having longer winters with more cold and snow that the poor Calgarians only wish they could get. Their football team is called the "Edmonton Eskimos",that should tell you a lot. Calgary has this thing called "Chinooks", it's awful,it's a kind of wind that ,right in the middle of winter when it's -30F it can change the temperature to +70F in a matter of minutes. Then Calgarians have to go and change to shorts and t-shirts.Poor people can't even put away their summer clothes in the winter. I guess the best way to decide is to come here and see for yourself....but better hurry though,Alberta may be issuing passports in the near future, and you may have a long wait to get in. -
Blair pulls plug on Kyoto

Why Kyoto will never succeed, by Blair Looks like Blair is facing the reality of Kyoto and admits it's going nowhere. Now it's Canada's turn to do the same.Time for a "made in Canada" plan to resolve our environmetal problems. -
With higher gas prices.
Canuck E Stan replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Canadian gas panic runs down "However, as federal Competition Bureau deputy commissioner Richard Taylor observed: "Price gouging is not illegal." Prime Minister Paul Martin promised Friday that the federal Liberal government will be vigilant on behalf of consumers, but outlined no specific measures. "We are going to do everything possible to ensure there is no gouging at the pumps," he told the media in Sydney, N.S. "We are monitoring the situation very closely and will continue to monitor it very closely." Great news PM is is going to do everything to ensure there is no gouging at the pumps, but didn't outlineany specific measures. And Dick Taylor says "Price gouging is not illegal" Don't you feel better about gas prices already? -
What more can you say.

Surplus At Just 1.6 Billion Dollars "-$2.3 billion for Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., to clean up environment problems." Did anybody pick up the bit in the surplus announcement about the $2.3 Billion going to AECL for clean-up? This seemed to come out of nowhere.Did we encounter a major problem at AECL? Why is this not newsworthy...$2.3Billion? The only place I found anything about it was on Monte Solberg, M.P. Official Opposition Finance Critic's Sept.21 blog. http://www.montesolberg.com/blog.htm "Amazing too how Ralph and the finance guys didn't hear about that little $2.3 billion liability at AECL. That's what they told the media today. As of budget time there was no problem at AECL. But just as it becomes apparent that the surplus would be much bigger than forecast a crazy coincidence happened. At that very time, all of a sudden, it became necessary to make what is probably the largest unbudgeted year end adjustment ever for a crown corporation. Wow, that is so weird. Obviously that is not newsworthy and no questions should be asked about it. After all, if we've learned anything we have definitely learned that you can trust the Liberal government. They certainly wouldn't stoop to manipulating the numbers just so they had more cash available to throw around at election time."
