They had already taken off before Columbia was informed, that's why they had to turn back. It doesn't matter if they were informed or not, it's a clear violation of a country's sovereignty. The US border is the US's problem, other countries aren't going to build Iron Curtains or Berlin Walls to keep people in. If Trump were in Reagan's position he would have been telling Gorbachev to build the wall higher.2 points

Interesting article from Kit Klarenberg published today on Scheerpost. Quoting the introduction and conclusion of the article: ** On January 19th, TIME magazine published an astonishing article, amply confirming what dissident, anti-war academics, activists, journalists and researchers have argued for a decade. The US always intended to abandon Ukraine after setting up the country for proxy war with Russia, and never had any desire or intention to assist Kiev in defeating Moscow in the conflict, let alone achieving its maximalist aims of regaining Crimea and restoring the country’s 1991 borders. To have a major mainstream outlet finally corroborate this indubitable reality is a seismic development. The TIME article’s brief first paragraph alone is rife with explosive revelations. It notes when the proxy war erupted in February 2022, then-President Joe Biden “set three objectives for the US response” – and “Ukraine’s victory was never among them.” Moreover, the phrase oft-repeated by White House apparatchiks, that Washington would support Kiev “for as long as it takes”, was never meant to be taken literally. Instead, it was just “intentionally vague” newspeak, with no implied timeframe or even desired outcome in mind. Eric Green, a member of Biden’s National Security Council who oversaw Russia policy, states the US “deliberately…made no promise” to President Volodymyr Zelensky to “recover all of the land Russia had occupied” since the conflict’s inception, “and certainly not” Crimea or the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. He said the White House believed “doing so was beyond Ukraine’s ability, even with robust help from the West.” It was well-understood such efforts were “not going to be a success story ultimately” for Kiev, if tried. According to TIME, the Biden administration’s three key objectives in Ukraine were all “achieved”. Nonetheless, “success” on these fronts “provides little satisfaction” to some of the former President’s “closest allies and advisers.” Green was quoted as saying Washington’s purported victory in Ukraine was “unfortunately the kind of success where you don’t feel great about it,” due to Kiev’s “suffering”, and “so much uncertainty about where it’s ultimately going to land.” [snip] Markedly, Zelensky was not present at Trump’s inauguration. In a January 6th interview with Newsweek, the Ukrainian President – typically never one to shy away from international jollies – said he “would like to [attend], of course”, but had received no invitation. In a rambling response, he said he was “not sure it’s proper to come,” particularly “during the war.” Sources close to Trump have claimed that on the contrary, Zelensky repeatedly asked to attend, but was rebuffed. For Berlin, Kiev, London, Paris, and NATO more widely, the writing couldn’t be on the wall any more plainly. Whatever reveries they may have of maintaining the proxy war any longer – Britain recently signed a 100-year-long partnership with Ukraine, under which London will “explore” building military bases on Kiev’s soil – they all ultimately remain imperial vassals, wholly dependent on US financial and military support to exist. Save for a major false flag incident, Trump’s message can only be received among the military alliance. ** Full article: https://scheerpost.com/2025/01/27/its-official-us-abandoning-ukraine/1 point

The only one with topnotch leadership skills to lead us, especially through this dark times, is Pierre Poilievre. First of all, Canada wouldn't be in such a mess without Trudeau's enablers in Chrystia Freeland, Jagmeet Singh and Yves Blanchet. They've all done their part in propping up Trudeau! All those who had stood by Trudeau, had propped him up and had caused so much damage to Canada. If Carney was an adviser to Trudeau - then, he's one of them too! They all have to OWN that! Why do I say Poilievre's the only option as Prime Minister? He's got the INITIATIVE that the other opposition leaders don't have. Some anti-Poilievre are ciriticizing him for writing the letter to the Gov Gen, urging her to use her authority to recall Parliament. I say, There's nothing for Poilievre to lose in trying. RIGHT? Given the gravity of our situation.......................at least, give him points for trying to do something! Even if it's just for trying! Obviously....... He is a fighter! He didn't just say, "Meh. I can't do that. The GOV-GEN won't go for it." Everyone is calling this tariff, a 5-alarm fire. Lol, given that there will be Carbon Tax coming too...................................you could really say, it's existential threat for many Canadians! Lol - if your house is gonna burn down, wouldn't you try anything and everything to save it? If Poilievre thinks the country is in a dire situation - to promptly act on it, and try every avenue he possibly can, to get us an early election....................... ...................just shows his STRONG leadership! He doesn't quit or give up easily! Imho - that's the kind of leader we need.............................. especially at a time like this!1 point

Borrowed from FB https://www.facebook.com/donna.k.ellis.9/posts/pfbid0duuoPu71RJsjvk7P75u7Qm6TJfidPm31LLVcRUxuP5XdrRBsxuoW9kqt8GAa1E7Ll A real question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’ THE SERIOUS ANSWER: Here’s what the majority of anti-Trump voters honestly feel about Trump supporters en masse: That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine." (https://www.usatoday.com/.../trump-university.../502387002/) That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay." (https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-hotel-paid-millions...) That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem." (https://abcnews.go.com/.../list-trumps-accusers.../story...) That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/.../donald-trumps.../) That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you exclaimed, "He sure knows me." (https://www.usatoday.com/.../president-donald.../4073405002/) That when you heard him relating a story of an elderly guest of his country club, an 80-year old man, who fell off a stage and hit his head, to Trump replied: “‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away. I couldn’t—you know, he was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him. He was bleeding all over the place. And I felt terrible, because it was a beautiful white marble floor, and now it had changed color. Became very red.” You said, "That's cool!" (https://www.gq.com/story/donald-trump-howard-stern-story) That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw. (https://www.nbcnews.com/.../donald-trump-criticized-after...) That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?" (https://www.theatlantic.com/.../americas-first.../549794/) That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense." (https://www.usatoday.com/.../what-trump-has.../1501321001/) That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!" (https://www.latimes.com/.../la-na-trump-campaign-protests...) That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!" (https://www.independent.co.uk/.../donald-trump-orders...) That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!" (https://www.theatlantic.com/.../why-cant-trump.../567320/) That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be." (https://www.huffpost.com/.../trump-insult-foreign...) That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!" (https://www.politico.com/.../138-trump-policy-changes...) That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!" (https://www.usnews.com/.../how-is-donald-trump-profiting...) That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/.../the-very-big-ocean.../) That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!" (https://www.cnn.com/.../donald-trump-dictators.../index.html) That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.” (https://www.nbcnews.com/.../more-5-400-children-split...) That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise. (https://www.americanprogress.org/.../confronting-cost.../) What you don't get, Trump supporters, is that our succumbing to frustration and shaking our heads, thinking of you as stupid, may very well be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also... hear me... charitable. Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering. - Adam-Troy Castro1 point

For a while now, America boasted several characteristics and features in its social life and politics that kept others in the sane world puzzled, baffled and scratching their heads: no but that can't be right. Miracles don't happen. Something will have to give. No, no America pressed on, look we can throw at it whatever we like and however much we fancy and it's bound to stand right here and not as much as shake. Big bucks and democratic politics: don't mix. The table is just too skewed. Outrageously priced basic medications and generally health care. Makes zero sense in the modern democratic world. Why does it continue? Simple: big money in politics and concentration of political and media influence. Big money and media ownership: slogans aren't enough to ensure objectivity of information. Mass gun ownership: the rest of the democratic world combined doesn't come close to one country by the count of mass shootings. Gun checks in public schools, really? The cost of public education, including post secondary: just insane. And the final one, most recently: the assault on the objective truth, the reality itself under the duplicitous and deceitful slogans of "freedom" it has nothing to do with. Economy and military power, the great facade contributed to influencing people to question these doubts. Wishful thinking, progressive humanity's long time companion played not a small role. But no: miracles don't happen. The foundations of democracy were strong built by generations of thinking and caring citizens to support a better future for their posterity. They withstood crises and wars. But nothing will stand to apathy, absence of thought and care and indifference. As a drying stream, the last drops of democracy are dripping and drying away. And if it could happened to a land this rich and generous this is a stern lesson to everybody: don't follow in that path. Truth matters. Objective reality exists. Big money and democratic politics don't mix. If if doesn't look right or outright insane that's what it is there are no propaganda-driven, dumb-down "explanations": someone just wants us dumb to control and make more dough this is what it always comes down to. This responsibility is bestowed upon us with the role and privilege of being free citizens. And the moment we forget and abandon it, the democracy will go. America is falling behind on staples, trivial things in the developed democratic world: great public transit; affordable quality healthcare; high-speed trains; clean and healthy natural environment. Purses burst with billions and trillions, propaganda is pumped on the ears of dumbing by the hour pueblo yes it's great that you don't have it and can't have it, it's all for you you should be happy to pay more and outrageously for your basic medications. But look, the reality is real. A grandma in Spain takes a high speed train - right now, that will take her 300 km in just over an hour, at a reasonable price too. You don't have it and you can't even dream of having it. This is the reality of the 21st century America the land of what a trillion bucks in someone's pocket. No words can dismiss or falsify it: the facts.1 point

This is absurd of course. there were brief outbursts of unrests in each of those years but the idea that there were years-long riots is insane. Can't take you seriously when you keep lumping shot that had nothing to do with BLM in with it. And you're still pretending the white house was attacked in 2020? Come on. Many of them fictional apparently. So you're just guessing? Making s**t up in other words? Yeah, that's what i've been saying. Research data shows that in 2020 there were 220 "violent demonstrations" out of thousands of protests in what was undoubtedly the most intense period of unrest. So we're expected to beleive there were an additioonal 600 incidents over the previous several years. Nah.1 point

Think about this. Males today work less demanding manual labor jobs and also engage in less physically demanding hobbies. The exertion keeps your testosterone levels high. Become too sedentary and your levels drop. Most younger males that I work with or get to know, are big into video games and such. When I tell them that I once went on a 600 mile bike ride, they can't even fathom doing such a thing for fun.1 point

"Gazans" get way more resources than they need, they just spend all their money on weapons to commit terrorist attacks, and dig tunnels, dummy. https://nationalpost.com/news/world/israel-middle-east/hamas-leaders-wealth You go ahead and find that info from CNN, CBC, MSNBC, Xinhua, or your islamic state daily news subscription, I don't care, the rest of the adults are going to consider Nat Post a 'source'. It also estimates the net worth of several Hamas leaders — all of whom, it notes, live hundreds of kilometres from Gaza, in Qatar. Abu Marzuk, deputy chair of the Hamas Political Bureau is worth $3 billion, while senior leaders Khaled Mashal and Ismail Haniyeh are each worth about $4 billion. I doubt if those guys are really worth that much, but then again, they don't need money in Iran anyways because they get free everything for life there.1 point

That imbecile cannot grasp the fact that he is one of the most despised men of this Century, and that his endorsement of PP, will help the Liberals. The more Trump issues threats and intimidation tactics towards Canada, the worse the Conservatives fortunes will be. The most obvious example would be see how other Conservatives have tried to appease Trump. O'Leary, a former Conservative leadership Candidate, is now regarded as the most hated man in the nation. Even Albertans are turning on Smith. Stockwell Day, former leader of the Alliance (Conservative Party), has openly praised the idea of becoming the 51st state. When Trump speaks negative about Canada, the Liberal Party will be the main beneficiaries.1 point

Seems like both "sides" here are being overly simplistic. - The US leads history's largest military alliance. That alliance needs to maintain readiness. All presidents since Bush II have made this a major NATO issue. It's a fine for Trump to manipulate allies to do this. - Our alliance needs to maintain trust in our shared promises. All the readiness in the world is pointless if the actual bonds of agreement are made weaker. Democrats are correct to condemn Trumps actions that cast doubt upon our alliance or which act with hostiliy towards them, or which provide support to enemies.1 point

Well he just stood in front of the world's leading economists and told them 'they' would pay for his tariffs. Even told then how he's ordering lenders to lower interest rates when he doesn't have the authority to even do that in his own country. I mean tell lies to people who know they're lies and think you're the clever one? And within hours told Columbia how he's going to punish them for not allowing military planes to land at their civilian airports and dump off migrants. Ah, yes. I seem to remember someone in office who couldn't move the needle economically, couldn't deliver on his promises and drove massive elective deficits before leaving the country in complete shambles. Hm... Someone who lost half of his cabinet of "best people," who coincidentally denounced him as dangerously unfit for office. Someone who was twice impeached and became a convicted felon--with numerous other crimes on record. Someone who stole from his charity and ran fraudulent scams on the people who looked up to him. Hm... Someone who put our international relationships and esteem in the gold-plated toilet. And we became a laughingstock. Hm... Can't quite remember the name, but that guy was definitely a "true leader." Feels like the new guy is doing his best to emulate that guy, whoever he was.1 point
