Hudak won his party’s leadership race in June 2009. He replaces former leader John Tory, who resigned after failing both to win a seat in the provincial legislature, and failing to lead the Tories to electoral victory in 2007.
Hudak became a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) at the young age of 27.

Hudak won his party’s leadership race in June 2009. He replaces former leader John Tory, who resigned after failing both to win a seat in the provincial legislature, and failing to lead the Tories to electoral victory in 2007.
Hudak became a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) at the young age of 27. Quickly considered a rising star in the party, he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health. Since then, he has held several ministerial portfolios: Northern Development and Mining; Tourism, Culture and Recreation; and Consumer and Business Services.
Prior to entering politics in 1995, Hudak was employed by Walmart Canada where he assisted the company in transitioning into the Canadian marketplace. He also worked in tourism and economic development.
Hudak was born in Fort Erie, Ontario. He put himself through university working as a customs officer on the Peace Bridge. He earned a BA (Honours) in economics from the University of Western Ontario. Subsequently, he graduated with a MA in economics from the University of Washington, where he studied on a full scholarship.
He lives in Wellandport with his wife Debbie and their daughter Miller.
