Roy became interim leader of the ADQ party following the resignation of former leader Mario Dumont. She has been a member of the provincial legislature since 2003. Roy has also been a member of several committees, including those responsible for social affairs; choosing a site for the new hospital for the Université de Montréal; and institutions.

Roy has also been a member of several committees, including those responsible for social affairs; choosing a site for the new hospital for the Université de Montréal; and institutions. She has also been official opposition critic for justice and public security, and international relations.
After earning her law degree from the Université de Laval, Roy was lead counsel for mental health organizations and also practiced law privately. From 1999 to 2003, she became mayor of Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard. While serving as mayor, she was a member of the land use planning committee for the Bécancour MRC (regional county municipality) and a member of the committee on public transport in the Centre-du-Québec Region. She was also founding president of the committee for the industrial promotion of Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard.
She was born in La Tuque, Quebec. Roy is married to Réal Croteau; they have two children, Michel and Estelle.
